Team Namibia scoops 42 medals at 2023 AUSC UFAK South Karate Championships!

Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia would like to congratulate National Coach Sensei Stefan van der Merwe and the entire Namibian National Karate team on 42 medals won at the 2023 AUSC UFAK South Karate Championships last weekend!

The three-day tournament took place in Harare, Zimbabwe and featured athletes from Zimbabawe, South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique and Angola.

Among Namibia’s the 42 medalists were the following Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia athletes:

Lize van Wyk – Female U14 Kumite +52kgs – Bronze Medal

Hayle Nepgen – Female U14 Kumite -42kg – Bronze Medal

Victor Atshipara – Junior Male Kumite -61kg – Bronze Medal

André Viljoen – Junior Male Kumite +76kg – Bronze Medal

Joshua Kunneke – Senior Male Team Kumite – Bronze Medal

In addition to our National Athletes, OGKN Chief Instructor Sensei Carl van der Merwe also accompanied the team as part of the Namibian official’s delegation.

Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia is tremendously proud of all of our athletes’ performances and the many hours of hard work that they put in in preparation for the event! OGKN would like to extend an additional thank you to the parents and the greater OGKN community for helping make this opportunity possible for our athletes!
