OGKN Athletes Bring Home Six Bronze Medals from UFAK Region South Championships

03-Jun-2026

Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia (OGKN) would like to congratulate the five athletes who represented Namibia at the 23rd UFAK Region South Children’s, Juniors and Seniors Karate Championship 2026, held in Luanda, Angola from 14–17 May 2026.

The athletes competed in the following divisions:

Pewee Garth Kavekatora – Kumite Individual Male Seniors +18 Years -84kg

Thomas Ndara – Under 21 Male Kumite +84kg

Carli Du Plessis – Juniors Female Kumite 16–17 Years -48kg

Penda Given Atshipara – Cadets Male Kumite 14–15 Years -52kg

Lume Karsten – Cadets Female Kumite 14–15 Years -61kg

The championship was a strong showing for the Namibian athletes, with all five OGKN competitors earning Bronze medals in their respective divisions. An additional Bronze medal was also achieved in the Senior Male Team Kumite event, in which Pewee Kavekatora participated.

To help support the athletes on the self-funded trip, OGKN Honbu Dojo assisted each athlete from Honbu Dojo with a substantial financial contribution. The support came from funds raised during the annual Karate Fitness Challenge Fundraiser held earlier this year by the OGKN Honbu Dojo.

OGKN is immensely proud of the athletes’ achievements, dedication, and willingness to represent both the dojo and Namibia on an international stage. Competing at this level requires discipline, sacrifice, and courage, and the results are a reflection of the hard work put in both on and off the tatami.

Congratulations to all the athletes and coaches involved.
