Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia is proud to announce that six of its karateka have been selected to represent Namibia at the prestigious UFAK Region South (AUSC Region 5) Karate Championships, taking place from 24–25 May 2025 at the Tongaat Indoor Sports Hall in Durban, South Africa.
The athletes representing OGKN as part of the Namibian National Karate Team are:
Sensei Hermann Hentschel
Sempai Andre Viljoen
Demi von Solms
Kelsey von Solms
Gina Robson
Penda Atschipara
To assist with the costs of this self-funded trip, OGKN proudly contributed N$4,500 per athlete towards their expenses. These sponsorship funds were raised through OGKN’s Annual Karate Fitness Challenge Fundraiser.
The Region 5 Championships bring together the best karateka from across Southern Africa, competing in both Kata and Kumite divisions. This year’s event promises to once again be an exciting display of martial arts and sportsmanship. Although the tournament was initially set to take place in Botswana, it was relocated to Durban due to logistical reasons.
OGKN wishes the entire Namibian Karate Team the very best of luck as they step onto the international tatami. We are proud of our athletes’ dedication, discipline, and commitment to representing both Namibia and OGKN on this grand stage.
Go Team Namibia!
