OGKN Walvis Dojo once again hosted it’s annual coastal Gasshuku this passed weekend from the 13-14 of November 2020.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions the event, which has become a highlight on OGKN’s yearly calendar, had to take on a different form this year.
For the first time the event was hosted both in Walvis Bay and Windhoek simultaneously, thereby allowing OGKN students to attend even if they were unable to make the trip down to the coast.
As usual the Gasshuku was hosted by Sensei Carl van der Merwe (7th Dan) and Sensei Nico Maritz (5th Dan); as well as Sensei Rowan Carstens (3rd Dan). The event was attended by more that 78 members from all three OGKN Dojos, and was once again an incredible success.
OGKN Walvis Bay Dojo also used the opportunity to celebrate the students that had the best attendance in 2020. Sensei Nico Maritz can be seen below with a few of his most dedicated karateka; Hardus Naude, Veronicah Kashweka, Requelle Rickerts and Eduan Naude.
Thank you to all the karateka that made an effort to come out and support the event! It has been a difficult year for us all but as always we will continue to show our fighting spirit and grow and evolve as needed. – Sensei Carl van der Merwe
