Karateka test their skills at 2021 Karate Fitness Challenge!

29-Apr-2021

Last week OGKN hosted it’s annual Karate Fitness Challenge Fundraiser during normal class time on Wednesday, 21 April 2021 and Thursday, 22 April.

Overall strength and fitness were put to the test as karateka pushed through a variety of fitness challenges; aiming to see how many of each exercise they could do in a minute. The challenges included:

  1. Punches against a Punch Bag
  2. Kicks against a Punch Bag
  3. Sit-Ups
  4. Push-Ups
  5. Burpee Agility Test

Other than testing the karateka’s physical conditioning, the primary purpose of the event is to help raise funds for OGKN and it’s students. All processes raised during the event go towards supporting OGKN’s National karate athletes and instructors in participating in international competitions and training seminars. For the vast majority of Namibian Karate Athlete’s, international participation, travel and all expenses associated along with that have always been privately funded; which has hugely limited their chances in the past.

It’s is because of this that Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Namibia started the Karate Fitness Challenge Fundraiser, in hopes to be able to subsidize the athletes expenses and support them on their journey to international success!

OGKN would like to sincerely thank all of it’s members for participating in the event, and more specifically they parents and family members who have so whole-heartedly supported our organization and athletes.
